What’s New in Oregon Chiropractic: Key Updates from the OBCE 9-20-2024

At WellCore Health and Chiropractic, we believe that staying up-to-date with the latest in chiropractic regulations and news is important for both our patients and fellow practitioners. Recently, the Oregon Board of Chiropractic Examiners (OBCE) released some key updates that could affect chiropractic care across the state. Here’s everything you need to know, whether you’re a current or future patient or a chiropractic professional.

Supporting Diversity in Chiropractic

The OBCE recently sponsored the American Black Chiropractic Association’s (ABCA) annual conference. The ABCA’s mission is to encourage more Black individuals to pursue careers in chiropractic while offering support throughout the educational process. Dr. Tony Marasco and the WellCore team are proud to support such initiatives, as diversity in healthcare leads to more inclusive and comprehensive care for all.

What Does This Mean for Patients?

At WellCore Health and Chiropractic, our focus is always on delivering the best possible care. With these new developments from the OBCE, patients can feel reassured that chiropractic care in Oregon continues to be held to the highest standards. Here’s why this matters for you:

Diversity in Care: The OBCE’s involvement with the ABCA is a clear signal that Oregon values inclusivity in chiropractic care. At WellCore, we celebrate this initiative because it means more comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Fee Transparency: As the OBCE updates its fee structure, it reflects their commitment to maintaining high standards and regulating the profession efficiently. Patients can rest assured that chiropractors in Oregon, like Dr. Tony Marasco, are dedicated to continuous education and practice improvement.

New Fee Increases for Chiropractors

The OBCE has announced that it will increase fees across all license and application types by 45%. These changes help the board sustain its mission of regulating the chiropractic profession responsibly and ensuring high-quality standards.

Here’s a breakdown of the fee increases, which will take effect after the rulemaking hearing on September 25, 2024:

License/Certificate Type Current Fee 45% Increase
DC Regular Active License $510 $740
DC Senior License $378 $550
DC Initial License $180 $261
DC Inactive License $270 $390
CA Certificate/License $60 $87
CA Renewal $90 $130

This table highlights the most relevant fee changes for chiropractic professionals, including both DCs (Doctor of Chiropractic) and CAs (Chiropractic Assistants). If you’re a licensed chiropractor or assistant, it’s important to review these changes ahead of time to ensure you’re prepared for the updated fees. A 30% increase has also been proposed and more information about this will come out at the rulemaking hearing on September 25th 2024.

Scam Alert: Stay Safe

The OBCE has issued a warning about scammers who are targeting licensed chiropractors. These individuals may call, pretending to be OBCE staff, and claim that your license is at risk or that you owe a fine. If you receive such a call, remember: the OBCE will never ask for personal or financial information over the phone.

If you think you may have been targeted by a scam, call the OBCE directly at (503) 378-5816. At WellCore Health and Chiropractic, we urge all professionals to stay vigilant and protect their personal information.

Chiropractic Assistants: A New Streamlined Application Process

Good news for anyone interested in becoming a Chiropractic Assistant (CA)! The OBCE has simplified the application process, moving everything online. New CAs can now complete the entire registration process through the OBCE website. This streamlined process makes it easier for future assistants to get started and ensures faster certification.

At WellCore, we welcome these digital innovations because they make the profession more accessible and efficient, benefiting both practitioners and patients alike.
